Section 508 to be updated
Section 508 is being updated. An advisory committee is currently finalizing language that will be recommended to be included in the upcoming updates.

Leopard looks great. But what if you can't see?
An introduction to assistive technologies, what the new Apple operating system has to offer, and an interview with a blind user called Earl.

TIP (image replacement)
Another, and possibly more robust, image replacement technique. I haven’t tried it out yet though!

The videos roundup. Somehow I managed to get a whole bunch of video content for this one. As follows:
Commoncraft
Another site I was introduced to recently, this one introduces basic concepts (like social booking marking) in a video format using pen, paper and hand gestures. A distinctive style, and a fun way of explaining sometimes complicated topics.

For example! For those of you who don’t really understand what this RSS stuff we’ve added to our site is all about, see:

Overstream – making YouTube more accessible..
Overstream provides the functionality to add subtitles to videos (regardless of source) and then provides the code which you can embed the result into your web page. So bring in the uncaptioned YouTube video, parse it through Overstream and voila! Accessible video.

dotSUB
While we’re talking subtitling, dotSUB seems to have the same functionality, but doesn’t seem quite as user friendly as Overstream.

Videos of people using assistive technology
A bunch of videos made by AssistiveWare showing how people with various disabilities use assistive technology with their computers. You can download or stream them.

AbilityNet and YouTube
AbilityNet has a YouTube channel! We’ve uploaded some videos, and also put links on to loads of others that may be of interest.

And finally..
The Chumby
A new device (soon to be released) that seems part cuddly toy, part alarm clock and part computer. It’s a small wi-fi enabled device with a touch screen and a soft outer shell. I’m not sure whether it’s cute and useful, or just plain wrong..
