Apple commits to accessibility
Apple has updated its accessibility page and added more information about its commitment to accessibility. Some interesting comments on the zdnet blog not everyone is convinced.
Navigation aid for the visually impaired
The STEP-HEAR device can help visually impaired people navigate in public place, shops, train stations etc. It has two parts, a base station where information can be recorded about a location and a remote control that the user wears which is activated when the user walks in range of the base station.
Zebra striping
A further study on zebra striping by Jessica Enders to see if Zebra striping really can improve the readability of tables and forms.
Making phone calls from underground stations
O2 is making use of a new antenna system which will make it possible to use phones underground. Very soon O2 customers in Glasgow will be able to use their phones on the Glasgow underground.
Faster broadband in the UK
A government review of broadband in the UK will not support spending public money for next generation broadband.
Google digitizes news paper archives
Google has started digitizing newspaper archives. Initially they will be available through Google News and later on the news papers’ Web sites.
