AbilityNet needs your help
Accessible IT enables blind people to hear what they can’t see, deaf people to see what they can’t hear, physically disabled people to go places previously beyond reach and people unable to talk to have a voice, share their thoughts and speak their mind.
"For some people, when they acquire a disability it is imperative they learn how to use technology to help fill in the gaps in their lives their disability has created." Pamela Hardaker, senior consultant, AbilityNet
If you can do nothing more than move your eyes, with an adapted computer you can still shop, bank, keep in touch with family and friends anywhere in the world, learn and work. Don’t take it from us, read the comments from some of our clients.
There are over 5 million people in the UK with health conditions and disabilities that make using information and communications technology (ICT) difficult.
"It has made a terrific difference to our lives – our mobility problems used to make shopping a nightmarish experience."
AbilityNet is unique in working across all disabilities providing practical help and support. Although employers, schools and colleges are required to provide suitable equipment under current disability legislation people at home, for whom an adapted computer can make a world of difference, find it difficult to know where to get impartial and informed advice. The wrong equipment can convince people they’ll never get their independence back again.
AbilityNet helps thousands of people every year with conditions as varied as motor neurone disease (MND), multiple sclerosis (MS), repetitive strain injury (RSI) and strokes, but we can only do this with your support.
We have a waiting list of people who aren’t in work or education and our providing our free services costs over £500,000 a year. We are fortunate in having office space donated by several major IT companies, so our overheads are low at 11p in the £.
"At my computer I can forget my disabilities and concentrate solely on my capabilities – I can travel, shop and go to the cinema all in the same day – now that’s what I call progress"
Just a little time with AbilityNet can empower individuals and change lives forever and you can be a part of that. A little money can go a long way. Why don’t you change someone’s life and make a donation now?
"The remote support was amazing. We need more services to be like this. Thank you."
If AbilityNet has helped you, please let us know. Your story can help inspire other disabled people and those who give us funds.

Gift Aid (Adobe PDF 37KB)
You can also choose to gift aid your donation if you pay income tax. Using gift aid means that for every pound you give to AbilityNet, we will receive and extra 28 pence from the Inland Revenue. This means that a £10 Gift Aid donation, is worth a total of £12.80 to the charity and it doesn’t cost you any extra.
Use the Gift Aid calculator to see the difference it makes.
It can apply to donations of any amount, large or small, cash, cheque, postal order, direct debit, standing order, debit or credit card or foreign currency.
A single Gift Aid declaration can apply to all past donations you have made (since April 2000) and to all future donations you make.
On top of this, higher rate taxpayers can reclaim as much as £23 for themselves from the taxman for every £100 donated to charity, by including details of their Gift Aid donations on their Self Assessment form.
“If everyone gave tax-effectively, charities could claim and extra 900 million from the Inland Revenue each year
”
Next time you give a donation look out for the Gift Aid Declaration section on the Gift Form (Adobe PDF 37KB) fill it in and send it to AbilityNet.

AbilityNet can help people stay in work, maintain their independence and achieve things they thought would be impossible because of their disability.
