Open Doors project - Coventry and Warwickshire
AbilityNet and learndirect
Funded by the European Social Fund – through the Heart of England Community Foundation Promoting employment opportunities for all
AbilityNet are working in conjunction with local learndirect centres in Coventry and Warwickshire and have received funding support from the Heart of England Community Foundation to run the Open Doors project. The project aims to offer at least 15 unemployed people with disabilities in Coventry and Warwickshire the opportunity to improve their employability by undertaking on-line learndirect courses facilitated by use of appropriate adaptive computer technology.
Candidates for this European Social Funded scheme should be unemployed adults who have a disability or difficulty which would be a barrier to accessing information technology or education. Candidates should also have an interest in improving their work related skills through learndirect provision.
Successful candidates will be invited to an Open Day at our Warwick centre where they will receive a free assessment of their IT/computing access needs and have an opportunity to meet representatives from three local learndirect centres to discuss the courses available.
This Open Day is planned for Friday January 27th 2006, in Warwick.
Learndirect offer an extremely wide range of courses – from basic skills to more advanced IT skills courses. Some courses may incur a charge. This will be determined by the candidates’ individual circumstances, such as means tested benefits, training requirements and the type of course.
Sadly we cannot offer every applicant a place on this scheme. Candidates will be chosen based on need and circumstances. Unsuccessful candidates’ details can be kept on file and may be eligible for future initiatives should applicants wish.
