On-line love is hard to find for disabled people this Valentine’s
15/02/2007
The top dating websites are inaccessible to disabled people seeking romance on-line says leading web accessibility experts, AbilityNet, in its latest e-Nation report.
Of the ten top ten sites for both able-bodied and disabled people surveyed, only one – www.disabledfriends.com - gained a minimum three star accessibility rating from the national computing and disability charity.
The remaining nine sites all scored a mere two out of five stars, meaning that they lack the fundamental features to enable disabled people to access and navigate them effectively. These included four sites specifically for disabled people – www.whispers4u.com, www.disableddate.co.uk, www.cupidcalls.co.uk and www.disableunited.com, as well as five mainstream sites - www.loopylove.com, www.girlsdateforfree.com, www.datingdirect.com, www.match.com and www.friendsreuniteddating.co.uk.
