DSGI & AbilityNet Impacting the lives of 39,000 people
26/07/2006
AbilityNet is delighted to have been chosen by DSG International plc (best known for their high street brands PC World, Currys Digital, The Link and Currys) to establish under switchedOn communities, a network of organisations providing IT and training for disadvantaged community groups.
Within this three year programme AbilityNet will establish a UK wide network of Community Partners; supporting over 200 locally based Voluntary Community Organisations (VCOs) to impact the lives of over 39,000 people with a disabling condition.
AbilityNet will work closely with the Community Partners, providing equipment, advice, training and support to become a regional focus for assistive technology. Together, we will provide support to their local VCOs through a package of accessible IT kits, training days, networking events, product update days, mentoring, joint assessment support, remote support and an accreditation program. This will enable the VCOs to provide accessible ICT services to their beneficiaries and where the ICT facilities already exist assist them in ensuring that they are available to more disabled people.
Through switchedOn communities we hope to impact the lives of thousands of disabled people, bringing within easy reach everyday tasks such as banking shopping, communicating, education, volunteering and work opportunities.
