Local CAPacity: an introduction for schools
Supporting SEN students through technology
With the inclusion agenda, devolved Special Educational Needs (SEN) budgets and Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) responsibilities, schools are increasingly required to make their own informed decisions about how to support their SEN students. ICT and assistive technology can play a huge part in meeting these support needs.
The Communications Aid Project (CAP) proved that the right equipment, chosen and supported properly can give SEN students a much greater degree of independence, achievement and real inclusion.
With the support from CAP gone, teaching and IT staff often don’t know where to start to find the right support package for their student. The risk of buying equipment that could be expensive but proves not fit for purpose is also a major concern. This can be an even greater problem in areas where diminishing local authority services means that support and expertise is not available for all students.
With our extensive experience of supporting schools to meet their students’ ICT access requirements, AbilityNet can help!
We have extended our successful Local CAPacity support programme to include packages specially tailored for schools needs and budgets.
These packages provide the help that schools need to support their SEN students through technology – they include training around assistive technology, access to expert advice and resources, equipment loans and days of AbilityNet consultants’ time to be used within your schools.
