Expert witnesses from AbilityNet
AbilityNet have provided expert witnesses across the UK for the last 17 years, as The Computability Centre and as The Foundation for the Communication of the Disabled in the 1990’s and on their merger as AbilityNet for the last 7 years.
We have acted on behalf of a number of solicitors for their claimants, as well as for case management companies involved in personal injury and medical negligence cases where their client has a disability and is unable to use a standard computer.
The computer can be easily adapted to suit the capabilities of the user and an adapted computer can enable the client to keep in touch with the world via the internet, to carry on learning through specialist software or distance learning opportunities, to develop new skills so they can take advantage of digital opportunities and to give them control and independence in a part of their lives.
Our clients have included children where we have looked at the home and school environment. With adults we have looked at the home or care environment as well looking at solutions to enable the person to return to work either in a new career or to an existing job with an adapted system.
Our recommendations could include a specially adapted computer with a touch screen, specialist hardware such as adapted keyboards or an alternative to a keyboard such as an eye tracking system (where the user controls the computer by eye movement)

Our expert reports include an impartial in depth look at the clients’ existing computer knowledge, skills and needs and then by trying out solutions we match these to the appropriate assistive technology and training package. We provide a quote for the package as well as the likely replacement costs of the technology over time.
