On 12th July 2006 retailer DSG International plc (best known for their high street brands PC World, Currys Digital, The Link and Currys) launched ‘Switched on Communities’, providing technology and training for disadvantaged communities, bringing all its expertise to bear in tackling a growing social phenomenon of technological exclusion.
Within this three year programme AbilityNet aim to establish a network of 8 Community Partners supporting up to 208 locally based Voluntary Community Organisations (VCOs) to make an impact on the lives of over 39,000 people with a disabling condition.
In the first phase of delivery AbilityNet are recruiting four Community Partners, one each in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and a further four partners in England in Year two. The funding support package available to each successful Community Partner in year one is £20,000 including a full accessibility support kit and training.
As a Community Partner you should be a Voluntary Community Organisation or not for profit organisation with a proven track record in working in partnership and with skills in ICT and/or people with a disability. As part of the programme you will receive all the support from AbilityNet you need to deliver support and training to the VCOs in your region.
